How to convert a Bijoy Word file

1. Click Choose files and select one or more .docx files. Old .doc files must first be saved as .docx in Word (File, Save As, Word Document).
2. Pick the Unicode font you want. Nikosh is used on government documents in Bangladesh, Kalpurush and SolaimanLipi are popular for general use.

Frequently asked questions

Is Nikosh Unicode or Bijoy?

Nikosh is a Unicode font, made for the Bangladesh government by the Bangladesh Computer Council. Text written in Nikosh is already Unicode and does not need converting. If you pick a Nikosh file here, the tool tells you it is already Unicode. The confusion comes from people typing with the Bijoy keyboard layout in Nikosh, which still produces Unicode text.

How does the tool know which text is Bijoy?

Word stores the font name of every piece of text. Text in fonts ending in MJ, such as SutonnyMJ, is Bijoy. The tool converts that text, switches its font to the one you chose, and leaves English and Unicode Bangla text alone.

Can it convert .doc, PDF or Excel files?

Not yet. Save a .doc file as .docx in Word first. For PDF, copy the text out and paste it into the Bijoy to Unicode converter.

Is my file uploaded?

What about a .txt file?
